A Night to Celebrate Literacy!

The 2021 PGI season is here, and we are thrilled to be part of it! As the PGI partner in Alberta, we remain committed to raising awareness about literacy and helping to support literacy programs throughout Calgary.

This years’ event, A Night to Celebrate Literacy with PGI, will take place on September 8th, International Literacy Day. Hosted at Escoba Bistro & Wine Bar, the evening will include a sit-down wine paired dinner followed by the PGI National Virtual Event broadcast.

Comedian Rick Mercer hosts the National Virtual Event with celebrity author Louise Penny and music from Twin Flames, Stephen Fearing and fiddler Ashley McIsaac. In addition, the concert will feature PGI Calgary’s Poet Laureate Wakefield Brewster.

Want to support CanLearn, but not sure about dining-in? Escoba is offering the dinner to go (without wine pairings), so you can enjoy the delicious 3-course dinner and watch the event from the comfort of home!

As always, the event will include an exciting raffle, with the chance to win amazing prizes. Check back often for prize announcements!

100% of the funds raised at this event stay local and support our work to make Calgary a vibrant city of lifelong learners.

Camp WordPlay Starts July 19!

Camp WordPlay: Reading in Action!

Camp WordPlay is set to run online from July 19 – 23, 2021. The Camp will be a fun and engaging online program that starts with building a positive attitude towards reading and continues on to teach the key reading skills.

Who can benefit from this program? Children in grades 1 and 2.

Reading is the foundation for success throughout the school years. Consequently, success in reading is critical for children.

Grades 1 and 2 are a critical window of opportunity for learning to read. Children who successfully learn to read in the early primary years of school are well prepared to read in the years to come.

Children who continue to struggle past Grade 3 are at a serious disadvantage.
